CLEPA

CLEPA participates in Thematic Group 2 on Information and Awareness.

CLEPA was created in 1959 by various national associations representing automotive suppliers with the aim of establishing a representation office in Brussels, dealing mainly with the issue of technical regulations that the newly born European Economic Community was starting to define. In 1997 the association was redesigned and changed its statutes to gain independence from other similar industry associations thus becoming more effective in its advocacy mission. CLEPA then became the European Association of Automotive Suppliers and dramatically extended both its range of activities and its membership, including corporate members. It monitors and analyses issues of common interest to its members to develop and support the common interests of automotive suppliers. It informs its members about all trends and important industry developments and impacts. CLEPA represents its members’ interests vis-à-vis the legislative and administrative bodies at the European Union and United Nations level and supports those institutions in dealing with matters relevant to the automotive industry by presenting the views of the suppliers. Being the voice of the automotive suppliers, CLEPA, responds to media inquiries about trends in the industry and about its activities. It also works to enhance the industry image and to promote its importance to the economy. CLEPA establishes leverage effects by maintaining contacts, forming alliances and promoting synergies with other European and international automotive associations and relevant parties.

A strong research object represents the efficiency assessment of Intelligent Transport Systems. Methods such as forecasting approaches, demand reaction analysis and cost-benefit analyses (CBA) are applied to evaluate organizational, infrastructure and pricing measures in transport policy. In the socio-economic impact assessment the society perspective as covered by CBA is enlarged by estimations of the private profitability (e.g. break-even analyses, acceptance analyses) and wider economic impacts (value-added, employment, income and income distribution).
